One more reason not to drink the swimming pool water

ATLANTA — Swimming pool season is upon us, and Thursday we found out the results of a CDC study of the purity of the water in pools across Metro Atlanta.

The CDC is concerned.

Incidents of illnesses from swimming pool water have steadily increased since 1978.

So, this past summer, the CDC tested swimming pool water at 161 pools across Metro Atlanta.

The tests discovered E. coli bacteria in 58 percent of the pools.

Which means there was fecal material in those pools.

Parents, poolside on a warm Thursday afternoon with their young children, understood that the risk of illness is greater when there is E. coli in the water.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Paul McCartney is kicking off the North American leg of his “Out There” tour in Orlando.

The massive production, which requires 31 trucks’ worth of equipment, includes lasers, huge pyrotechnics, and state of the art video displays, according to the website of the former Beatles star.

McCartney performed the show to a sold-out crowd of 55,000 people in Brazil earlier this month, performing “Band on the Run”, “Hey Jude”, “Yesterday” and “Let It Be.”

He will perform at Orlando’s Amway Center on Saturday and Sunday night. T

New to the graphic books hardcover best-seller list this week, at No. 2, is “Uncanny Avengers,” written by Rick Remender and illustrated by John Cassaday. The series is about a team of heroes composed of the recently feuding X-Men and Avengers, who are attempting to show the world that humans and mutants can peacefully coexist. For many years, the X-Men were the jewel in Marvel’s publishing crown, but the Avengers, under Brian Michael Bendis, soon became the top dog. Lately, both teams have been serviced by creators at the top of their game.

The California guitar trio, made up of Hideyo Moriya from Japan, Bert Lams from Japan, and Paul Richards from the Utah., plays two area shows this week, the Iron Horse, 20 Center St, Northampton, Mass., on Friday, and the Bridge Street Live, 41 Bridge St., Canton on Sunday.

The trio met at a guitar seminar in England in the 1980s, and toured with Robert Fripps League of Crafty Guitarists.

They became a trio in 1991, releasing their first album in 1994.

The Iron Horse show on Friday begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17.50 in advance, $20 at the door.

Santa Barbara International Film Festival sets dates for next two events

Film aficionados and even make-the-scene wannabes can get an early jump on crashing the Santa Barbara International Film Festival as dates for the next two events have now been set.

Organizers announced recently that the festival’s next edition will be held Jan. 30 to Feb. 9. That will be the festival’s 29th run.

As usual, the 2014 festival will fall right amid the awards season frenzy and its crown jewel, the Oscars. Nominations for the 86th Academy Awards will come out on Jan. 16, two weeks before the festival opens. The
